![]() Was born and raised on the Mississauga's of the New Credit Reserve on November 6th, 1954. By the age of eleven he had his first guitar and set out to learn and master the music he heard around the house, such as the family's Hank Williams and Ray Charles records, or the latest hits coming over the airwaves to the kitchen radio. It was this healthy dose of country, soul, pop and rhythm & Blues that became the foundation of Mark LaForme's diverse styles. When he sings and plays country he sounds country, and when he rocks he rocks with the best of them. After playing in a few local bands, Mark moved to Hamilton in 1975 to form the band Next with former Crowbar (Oh What A Feeling) member Roly Greenway. For the duration of the seventies Mark played the clubs across Canada and the United States until the advent of the Urban Cowboy craze. With an early background in country, Mark had no problem crossing over what was becoming a more lucrative market. During this time of transition in the 80's Mark was also writing songs for Chappell Music (now Warner Chappell) and had a number of artists record his material. Most notably were country star Gene Watson and Ronald Reagan's Daughter Patti Davis as well as Dalla Harms, Marty Butler, and Harold MacIntyre. The revenue generated from these songs enabled Mark to finance his own country record, and he chose to record in Atlanta rather than Nashville in the hope of creating a new sound. His hunch paid off when he was signed to RCA Records Canada in 1985. After releasing four well received and widely played singles including Nashville Dream, Mark went to Nashville to start writing again. When he returned in 89 he was bombarded with requests to make appearances at clubs and concerts and with other artists. Instead Mark decided to slow it down and he got married with hopes to start a family. During this period in his spare time he went to George Brown College and became a gourmet chef until he was called upon to appear in concert over seas at the European Country Music Festival in Zevenbergen Holland in 1994. This opportunity inspired Mark to get After performing a few small tours to promote his new release he came back home and had become one of the most recognized artists in the Southern Ontario area. then on May 17th 1998 Mark received a phone call at 11:30 at night that has changed his career into something that he had only dreamed of. That call was from Stompin' Tom Connors who was planning a Canada wide tour and was looking for a new group to open up his concerts across the country. Without delay, Mark accepted. Mark kicked off the tour receiving national coverage on Much Music fro the Canada Day Celebration in Ottawa that Molson sponsored. He ten went on and performed 40+ concerts with Tom and ended up in Massey Hall Toronto four months later at the end of October. The tour was extremely successful generating over 1.2 million dollars in sales. Mark had been greatly applauded by over 75,000 people coast to coast. Mark's success just would not stop there. On February 13th 1999 Mark performed at the closing of the Maple Leaf Gardens, once again receiving national exposure this time to Millions of people across the country on CBC. Shortly after, Mark had been signed to A-C-T Records which saw the talent he was capable of, recorded an album of Roots Canadian Country Music with a touch of blues. Mark noticed the effect this music had on the Canadian people during the tour and realized that it had been slowly lost over the years. Before Mark showcased another Canadian tour, he was asked to record for Stompin' Tom on his new album to be released in November '99 entitled "Move Along with Stompin' Tom". By the time all the recording was over it was time to leave again for the road. The tour lasted from the 1st of August to the end of September. Tour Highlights include another packed show at the legendary Massey Hall Toronto, and a performance in front of over 60,000 people during the Havelock Country Jamboree. Once again Mark played for many more thousands of people across the country and the As it stands now, E.M.I Music Canada and A-C-T Records Ltd. are planning to release Marks CD "True to Form" in stores at the end of February, and E.M.I has already released their 1st of the year Compilation to country radio with Marks new single "Do It All Over Again". Mark is scheduled for more National T.V. Coverage this year. |
