| Comments | Tom, do you know where Porquis Jct. is? Well, that is one spot, unfortunately for us, you didn't book while I was living there. I guess we were just too small a venue considering we were a population of only 500. As a kid, I sneaked into the Maple Leaf Hotel, with a few others, and we sat quietly in the lobby, so we could hear you from the lounge. We were too young to get in, but we wanted to behave well enough to at least not get thrown out for sitting there doing nothing, not even paying a penny for anything. It was obvious we weren't able to book a room or go into the drinking area. Yes, we heard you and loved the stompin which I don't know whether you did on a board or not but we did hear about the board shortly afterwards. We went home by bus, and bragged to all our friends. We had to hold on to our courage to remain there since we were so obvious, so we only got to hear two songs: Rubberhead and Rouyn. I have read both your volumes TWICE, yes, absolutley every line TWICE, and have a great desire to positively comment and pose several questions. Surely this kind of interst deserves some response from you. Everything on my mind is terrifically sincere and I have a burning desire to inquire as these issues come into my mind almost daily. Is this where I am able to do so? You deserve the most gratitude of any person I have ever known or read about, and I have read many autobiographies and quite a conscientious person. I am so astounded by the events you have been able to overcome that I require more space to adequately express these concerns and pose my questions. One little comment: Porquis is humbly located on old highway 11 about 5 miles from Ansonville where I noticed you played -was it the Glendale? You didn't specify in your books. (Back to my little anecdote) When I was a child, Myrna Lorre, my heroine, was booked there (at the Agriculture Hall) for one night on her tour to Port Arthur / Ft. Williams (Thunder Bay). The price was $2.00 or perhaps .50 is more like it, but I seem to recall it was a lot at the time. We had paid well in advance. I relished this upcoming event for weeks. Alas, the day arrived! It was Nov., and the snow was flying so thick that the visiblility must have been zero. Where were they going to stay and how were they going to drive anywhere - even out of the parking lot? Although they showed up, there was a grand total of 3 of us in the audience. Only Myrna came on stage and spoke to us, stating that the event would have to be cancelled and they were heading on out for Christmas. We (I) begged and pleaded for at least one song. I probably put on a display the likes of which she never seen in her life. As a result of my reaction, she would disappear and try to convince the others (or someone) to at least do one song for me, which was either the, French Song, or, Are You Mine. While I knew there was no hope for the second one, as it was a duet, I was willing to settle for anything. However, she couldn't convince anyone she was with to allow her to do even The French Song. I only wanted her to get her guitar and sing one, or even without her guitar - just please sing! But I suppose it would have involved unpacking too much stuff and singing without accompaniment would have been a risk - I don't know - perhaps they were just cold hearted. They, of course, refused and returned our money. A return of money just didn't appease the situation for me, and I never forgot it. I was forever heartbroken as I honestly thought that she would comply with my outlandish begging. I staggered home through the blizzard so disappointed! Somehow I don't think you would have treated 3 children like that. And, you could have stayed at our house easily and eaten well. Myrna and whoever don't know what they missed! Please have someone answer so that I may address the more pertinent issues on my mind. I believe you will enjoy my questions. Sincerely, Fayth Kirk |

| Comments | Here's what I think about Stompin' Tom: On the 50th anniversary of the collapse of the Second Narrows Bridge in Vancouver, in which 19 men were killed, I had a great Stompin' Tom experience. I was driving in North Vancouver at the exact moment the CBC "As It Happens" show marked the event with a commentary by one of the men who survived. Then they played Stompin Tom's great song, "The Bridge Came Falling Down". At that exact moment I had a great view of the bridge. Needless to say, the song had a really tremendous impact on me. I couldn't have timed it better, and I will never forget that moment. Stompin' Tom's ability to write such an amazing tribute is a real demonstration of the man's tremendous empathy with the common man. He and Woody Guthrie have a lot in common. General Romeo Dallaire also recognized that fact when he played Stompin' Tom's music during the horrific genocide in Rwanda. There ain't no one like him and I wish him the best. |

| Comments | We just saw "The Ballad of Stompin' Tom" at the King's Wharf Theatre in Penetanguishene. We really enjoyed the play and learned a lot about you, Stompin Tom. We were disturbed to hear the statement - "You can marry a fag in Ontario but you can't smoke one". I found that use of "fag" offensive and that statement put a damper on the enjoyment of the play for me. The audience also seemed to react negatively to that statement too. It just didn't seem to fit and was very unnecessary for the literary impact. |

| Comments | Responding to Lenard; i must say sorry to hear of your story.the video is here if you have not seen it in sometime. http://www.emidigitalmedia.com/jukebox/jukeboxVideo.asp?id=13047 i know that EMI owns the the rights to all of stompin tom's videos.i have spoke to some rep's there, red tape legal crap basically.i wonder if tom's videos will be get released on dvd (heaven forbid) when he passes on.it's really too bad it takes that to happen "marketing rules" i guess.anyways i hope you get your video/footage as promised,someday. my suggestion is to email EMI if that goes anywhere. good luck with that. john |

| Comments | Back in late 1988 or early 1989, Tom and a Video Crew came to CFB Petawawa, where my family and I lived and I was serving in the Canadian Military. I had just returned from a Peacekeeping Mission in Iraq and the word went out that Tom and his video crew were looking for Peacekeeper's families to use for background in a video they were making for the new "Blue Berets" song Tom had released. My name came up in the usual military fashion, I was told to volunteer for this, and so the whole crew descended on my home, to do their taping, for the day. We were promised that in exchange for being allowed to use footage of my family, in the Blue Beret video, and for us opening our home to them, a copy of the video and all footage that was made of my family that day, would be sent to us. Unfortunately, the crew never followed through with the promise and the video was never sent, so we only have this brief anecdote as a reminder of that day. It would be nice if word of this could be sent to Tom as I do believe he is a man of his word and he would be quite happy to ensure my family had the reminder of his visit that was promised to us. Tom is a wonderful man and a Great Canadian. Keep on stompin' Tom! |
